About Us
With Long and Dibden having been established in 1965 by William Long and Stanley Dibden the business has over 50 years of fencing experience. With Gary Long keeping the family business going, our aim is to continue providing an excellent, reliable service using high quality, but affordable materials sourced from companies we have been using for years. This means we can offer reliability and assurance that in most normal circumstances what we put up stays up for many years to come.
1965
Mr William Long and Mr Stanley Dibden were brother in laws and started the business of Long and Dibden back in approximately 1965 in the village of Nomansland, Wiltshire.
Whilst William (Bill) and Stan carried out the day-to-day work of fencing, meeting clients and providing estimates their wives Hazel and Mary kept the office work up together with Hazel hand writing and posting the quotations and Mary typing the invoices and again posting them (as opposed to today when everything is sent electronically).
They all worked together for many years until Stanley retired. Bill carried on the business with two of his sons Adrian and Gary joining as partners and Hazel still doing the paperwork.
2007
Some time later Adrian left to pursue his own business leaving Gary to continue alongside his parents until Bill’s death in 2007 when he took over the business with his wife Maxine as his partner as G Long T/As Long and Dibden Fencing as it is known today – relocating it to Woodlands, Southampton with a storage yard in Southampton.
TODAY
All in all a real family business, grown up from nothing by Bill, Hazel, Stanley and Mary which is still going today.
Over the years contracts were established with various local authorities including Hampshire County Council, Southampton City Council, Dorset County Council, Test Valley Borough Council, Bournemouth Council to name a few.
Work was also carried out for Southern Water, the Police Authority, the Fire Service and many other public sectors but right from the very beginning domestic customers were also an important and valued part of the business, as it still is today.
